It was an easy morning with a long drive to Gettysburg to check out the site of the most important military conflict in the Western Hemisphere. We saw the great intro video, experienced the Cyclorama (the kids loved it), checked out the National Cemetery, and the toured the battlefield. Ask the students about walking in the footsteps of history! After a quick stop at the hotel, it was off to Alexandria to board the Mis Christin and cruise the Potomac. The dinner was great, only rivaled by the various dance moves of the kids. With double ice cream for dessert, who can complain - it even made us less upset about the Bucks. Last day tomorrow!

So ... the day began a little early, got a little crazy, then wet, then tiring ... but we all managed! The stories will be epic ... maybe some pics will be posted. The tour was excellent today, with a drive out to the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum to see all things that fly, and also fly some of our own missions on the simulators, We visited the American History Museum for a short time and then tour our first ever look at the African American Museum of History and Culture. The museum is incredible - it's actually difficult to describe in words. After a spirited walking tour of the MLK, FDR, and TJ Memorials, it was off to Dave and Busters, with yummy food, fun games, and prizes that really have no accurate adjective. Considering the circumstances at the opening of the day, it was an awesome Wednesday in DC.
We had some tired tourists this morning, but a Hard Rock breakfast and a visit to Ford's Theater charged everyone for a great day. We spent time at the Newseum and saw a Presidential motorcade, spent a great deal of time at the Holocaust Memorial Museum during the week long Holocaust Remembrance, and took a visit to the White House (outside the White House, but still cool.) After dinner, the kids toured the four major memorials on the Mall The Lincoln Memorial took the polling as favorite, but all of the memorials impressed and inspired. We will be raising money to send veterans to see them with our service learning project in May!
The kids have been great tourists, asking questions, learning a ton, and having fun, They all agree that it's better than history class! We have 94 weary travelers, but everyone made it to DC without a problem (unless you count the Bucks game). The flights were smooth, and the kids are settling down in the hotel and getting ready for a great day of touring tomorrow. We have a ton planned, and we wont let wet weather get in the way of our historical fun. Look for the pics and video to start coming tomorrow!
